These places are great if you are looking for a predictable, familiar getaway. Many people have their default location that they return to every year. Everything is right there, and so very little planning is necessary. The food, entertainment, and lodgings are generally not far away. And there is nothing wrong with this kind of trip. It can build great family memories and positive associations with this place.But what if you want something a bit more out of the ordinary?

Watching out for bedbugs while you travel
Reports of bed bug bites are becoming more and more common as these little bugs have started taking over entire regions, especially in large cities. Bed bug bites were unheard of for the most part since the 1950s, but since people have started overlooking them they have become something that is looked at more as simply being harmless. Not only are people overlooking them, but the decline in the economy and booming tourism has caused many people to bring them in from other areas on luggage. This can cause hotel rooms to become infested, and these bugs easily attach to other items and are transported without even knowing it. Before you realize it, you may have bed bugs at home.
If you’ve recently travelled, it is important to make sure that you are correctly identifying any bug bites you seen on your body. It’s easy to write the bite off if you’re not looking for these creatures specifically. Bed bugs are oval shaped in shades of red, yellow, brown, or a mix. They often look like baby cockroaches and are easily missed since they are active at night. Instead of trying to find live bugs, look for evidence that they have been there. Run a flashlight over the bedding and look for tiny brown specs, translucent exoskeletons, tiny blood spots, and a tiny bug or two caught in a fold. It can help to get down and put yourself at eye level with the bed.
Identifying bed bug bites can be very difficult, but it is the best way to confirm that they are truly the issue you’re having. Looking closely at pictures of bed bugs and bed bug bites can help you correctly determine if that is the kind of bite you have. They are similar to a mosquito or spider bite. Sometimes they are a small, raised red bump; other times it will be a red blotchy area or a small rash. One defining characteristic is that bed bugs often bite in a line pattern. Depending on how many you have and how your body reacts to them, treatment can vary. For severe cases, bites can be life threatening and result in a trip to the hospital. Most people simply experience irritation and itchiness, which can be treated by aloe vera or Benadryl-type creams. If you’re experiencing pain, Tylenol or anti-inflammatory pills can also be very helpful. Many people use different things, so whatever you are comfortable with is always best – for example, some people say tooth pain creams or allergy creams are the best remedy for bed bug bites.
